IN THE COUNTRY

Presented with an empty lot, it would seem there would be endless design possibilities. However a thorough analysis of the site starts to bring some organization to the layout of living spaces, both indoor and outdoors. Some spaces want to worship the sun. There could be views to feature and views to avoid. Cars want to be stored on the north and west side of the building to block prevailing winds (in western NY) and avoid blocking the sun. Is there topography to use to advantage for a walk-out level? When one gets far enough from a road there is no obligation to front the house to it.   Where is the best location for a convenient and visible entry? An empty lot is not empty of clues with which to use to create your unique design story for your project. Was there any history to the site that could enrich the theme?
